Choir News for the Fall

Published under Announcements,Events

It’s time to start thinking about getting involved in music at CV! There are opportunities for you, and they don’t take up every hour of the day. Most of our choirs practice once a week or less, and there are groups for every age. Below is a brief rundown of what’s coming up this fall. We truly need new members in all of our choirs to join on with our seasoned group. We love new faces and new voices! Every section is looking for bodies, no registration necessary. Just show up at practice and you’re in. Don’t be shy.

Senior Choir: This choir practices on Wed. nights from 8:00 – 9:00 P.M. in the sanctuary. Come to Recharge, stay for choir. You need to be in high school or above to sing in this choir. It is primarily an adult group of singers. We sing at least twice a month at either the 8:30 or 11:00 A.M. service. For special occasions we sing at both services. We try and sing at the Mall of America during the holidays and any other things that might turn up. We have a choir retreat in Jan. and journey up north to practice and sing for the campers up at Luther Point. Our first practice of the year is Wed., Sept. 7th. Folders, music, and schedules will be handed out then.

Senior Choir Europe Choir: This is an extension of the senior choir and is available for people who don’t want to commit to senior choir on an every week basis but want to learn the music for the June, 2013 Germany choir trip. You should turn up for the first practice for senior choir and get the once a month rehearsal schedule for people wanting to add on to the choir for the trip. We will dedicate one Wed. a month to rehearsing music that will potentially be used on that trip. This whole plan is still in the “formulating” stage, but come and find out more about it! Commitments to this trip and first payment will be coming up this Oct.

Upward Call: Upward Call is the choir that leads the contemporary worship services at church. We primarily serve the purpose of leading hymns but also provide special music on some of those Sundays. We sing both services on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month and practice between services on the same Sundays. Because Upward Call will be singing on Rally Sunday we will have our first rehearsal on Wed., Sept. 7th at 7:00 P.M. in the Youth Room. After that all rehearsals will be on the 2nd and 4th Sundays between services in the Sanctuary. We also play a big role in the “Dessert Theater”, which takes place in late winter. Fun stuff. We are open to kids in high school and adults. Please be at the first rehearsal on September 7th, we would like to begin looking at ways to lighten up this commitment and welcome more people to become involved. Come check us out!

Rock Band: Rock Band meets on Sunday evenings from 6:30 – 7:30 P.M. in the sanctuary. We are starting on Sunday, Sept. 18th. We are ages middle school through adult. We sing once a month, usually at both services. We are going to incorporate some fun activities this year. We sing more of the fun Christian music and some of the secular songs that have Christian messages. Join us for our kick off on the 18th. Plan on some weird food and crazy games. Just plan on being there! Oh yes, we are a big part of the “Dessert Theater!”

JIFY: Families with kids in the right age category will receive a letter about JIFY. That is our music adventure for the younger kids.
We have the church band, which will provide music during the Christmas season and for the “Dessert Theater”. You’ll hear more about that group as the year progresses…… While you’re waiting, dust off your instruments and find your mouthpiece and your reeds. Get set early.

The above is a basic overview of what’s in place for this year. Practices can change as things come up, but it always seems to work out. Please consider giving some of our music groups a try. We need “new blood” to keep growing, so come on board. See you at rehearsal!

Pack it Up! Service Project

During the month of September, the Social Ministries Committee will be collecting care package items that will be sent to military personnel who are currently serving our country overseas.

Monetary donations are also needed to pay for the mailing fees. Personal letters are very welcomed – never underestimate the value of a handwritten note. And, of course, prayers are always needed.

Last year, one of the soldiers wrote in her thank you note: “I wanted to say thank you to all the members of your congregation… for the box of goodies, the pictures and, of course, the prayers. It’s a good feeling to know that people are thinking about us. It’s people like yourselves that help keep us strong and stay positive. This package not only brought a smile to my face, but also others in my unit.”

This project is not just about collecting and sending ‘things’ to our troops, it’s about raising morale and letting the soldiers know we care about them.

Here’s how YOU can be a vital part of this service project:
 WRITE a personal note/letter/card (this is the number one request!)
 PRAY for their safety and speedy return home
