Senior Connection Events

Published under Events,Newsletters

The real seniors at CV have awakened from a long winter nap and are ready for some monthly doses of “togetherness.” Some of the group met between the fantastic SPIRIT BOUND Sunday services and put together the following plan for the summer:

  • June 9 (Tuesday)
Meet at Apple Valley IHOP for breakfast & chit chat
    at 8:15.
We have reserved one of the side rooms for our gathering. We will eat, take care of business, and leave in time for the 10:00 am feature at the IMAX. The movie is Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. Cost is $10 each.
  • July 11 (Saturday)
We will meet at noon at the Holland Lake picnic shelter for a good “ole summertime picnic.” We will fire up the
grill so bring your favorite meat to grill and a dish to share. Lemonade,
plates, tableware, and cups provided. We may play some games that don’t require effort, eat, and enjoy each other. This is the one meeting we plan each quarter which allows for the working seniors to join us to see what they have to look forward to when they punch the time clock for the last time.
  • August date to be announced.
We plan to meet at the county fair on senior day, select a food booth where we can chow down, and then together
or separately enjoy what the fair has to offer. Watch the worship bulletin or next mailing for details.

If you have reached the general area of “seniordom” (roughly mid fifties and above but we never check IDs), accept our warm invitation to check us out at one or more of the above, events.

Pack It Up

Published under Newsletters,Social Ministries

The Social Ministries Committee is excited to announce our new upcoming project slated for September – PACK IT UP – sending care packages for service people.

We are in the beginning stages of planning for this project. Do you have any relatives and/or friends currently serving our country overseas? We are compiling names and addresses of those servicemen and servicewomen and plan to send care packages to as many of them as we can. Has anyone been involved in this type of program? If so, the Social Ministries Committee would love to hear your ideas and suggestions. Please send names, addresses, ideas and suggestions to Michele Iaria at miaria@charter.net or 952-891-1303 or speak to anyone on the Social Ministries Committee.

310 Midwife Kits

Thank you to all who participated in Christus Victor’s annual midwife kit project. On Mother’s Day weekend the Social Ministries Committee and other volunteers assembled 310 midwife kits for mothers-to-be in Tanzania, Africa. The kits, assembled using donations from the congregation, are used by midwives to create sterile birth conditions. We hope that over time, these kits will help improve infant mortality rates in Tanzania. Thanks again from the Social Ministries Committee!

Munchkin Minute

Published under Children & Family

Allow me to set the stage:

On Sunday, May 3rd we had an in-church field trip. It was a beautiful day–sunny, warm. About twenty-five munchkins and a handful of adults gathered in the youth room for a hot dog lunch. Good food and good fellowship.

Next up was the scavenger hunt, kids everywhere–in the hallways, in and out of rooms. Searching for horse related items. After the hunt was completed, it was movie time “Veggie Tales”. It was a very funny and informative movie. A western-themed Veggie Tales, no doubt. We had popcorn everywhere. Then, finally, it was time.

Twenty-five extremely excited kids lined up in the CV courtyard, waiting for what was promised, two ponies, just for them, for a full hour! The kids were patient and calm, but that was just an act. They were bubbling inside waiting.

Suddenly, around the corner came two beautiful little ponies in a full trot being lead by their owners, manes blowing in the wind. An eruption of cheers and screams bellowed out from our little munchkins. You should have seen, it was amazing. The kids spent the next hour taking turns riding on “Oreo” and “Zippidy-Do-Da”. Let me tell you, these two horses were professionals. They were just as gentle and mellow as could be. Our kids behaved like perfect darlings and we all had so much fun. It was a beautiful day. Thank you to all the adults who lent a hand. You helped the field trip run so smoothly.

Also, I would like to take this time to tell you all of how wonderful the Sunday School year went. What a fabulous year we had! When you combine a great group of preschoolers and kindergarteners with an above and beyond the call-of-duty group of adults, only good things happen. As always, I don’t want the year to end, but there’s always VBS! And there’s always Sundays in room 108 (where I can easily be found).

Thank you, teachers for a great year. Thank you, Julie Colin, our wonderful pianist. Thank you especially to our marvelous munchkins and their parents. I wish everyone a safe and fun summer.

Doug
